Hip Hop Beats Can Help An Artist Stand Out - Get Rap beats Instrumentals Like The Major Labels Do

It may seem strange, but in today's music world, vocals and lyrics are no longer the determining factor in a artists success. The beat is in the forefront now, driving many contemporary hip-hop, r&b and pop pieces straight up the charts.

There are a number of different beat styles. Some common categories are east-coast beats, west-coast beats, club beats, and chopped and screwed beats. The type of beat can determine whether it is classified as commercial or underground although many times there is crossover.

Finding the correct types of beats like those found in successful hip-hop, r&b, and pop music can enhance your performance in a very noticeable way. This is why it is imperative for you, as an artist, to have the right beats backing you up, in order to showcase your talent.

There are numerous elements to consider when deciding on a song's beats; however, you must always keep in mind what your listening public wants to hear. Ensure that your performance stands out so that people remember more than just the beat that is stuck in their head. Always remember to chose carefully when selecting rap beats, hip hop beats, or r&b instrumentals; making sure that the beats motivate you to write a song that will stay with the listener.

A song with a hot beat can still reach the platinum level, even if it is not so great. Because the beat is compelling, the song repeats over and over in your head. Haven't you ever wondered how a certain song went platinum in the first place?

Pay attention to the percussion instruments that provide a lot of bass; fans seem to be drawn to a deep, soul shaking beat. Whether you are working with rap, r&b, or hip hop instrumentals the beats should have similar traits that move the crowd.

The beat is the foundation for a strong, catchy, melody. It may even have a melody already incorporated into it. It's often common for rap and hip hop instrumental beats to have the melody built in while others give you the room so that you can either rap to it, or sing in the chorus like '50 Cent' does.

It's important that your beats sound great whether played in a club, or on the radio. If the beat has a been mixed and mastered correct, it will make you sound as great as any big hit artist after you add your vocals to it.

As a new, and not yet established artist, you may not have all the money necessary to get the highest quality beats, but you can find professional quality beats for a reasonable amount of money on a handful of websites.

When trying to find a beat it is best to pick one that highlights your talent and does not detract from it. The beat you choose should not only be hot, but it should also go well with your talent and allow it to show through.

A good beat is important, but your talent is the key to your success. Practice your craft everyday. The perfect beats can be utilized by a person, to enhance his talent, thus allowing him to obtain this higher level of success.

With the help of quality music beats, many artists grow to amazing heights. The right music beat can improve an artists performance, seemingly overnight!

Ukulele Chords: Learn To Play Chord Changes

Ukulele is a great instrument to use when you play chords to songs. Your chord playing on your ukulele can be more effective if you apply a few guitar playing principles. In this ukulele lesson you will find out how you can change between chords better and easier!

First a few easy to follow principles as you play any chord:

1. Fingerings. The left hand fingers you use as you play chords can make chord changes easier or harder.

2. Minimize finger movements. Try to take the shortest distance between two frets if you have to move a finger to change chords.

3. Keep fingers down on frets that are shared between two chords.

Let us take a closer look at these principles:

Fingerings

As an example of the first principle we will take a look at two common ukulele chords. We will use the common C-tuning. In this tuning the C-major chord will look like this:

C-major: 04 03 02 31

The number pairs tell you how to put your fingers to play the chord. The first number in the pair tells you which fret to press down and the next number which string to play. The number 0 means that you will not press down any fret. For example 04 means play the fourth open string. The number pair 31 tells you to press down the third fret on the first string.

The strings are numbered from the string with the highest pitch. This string is called the first string and is the bottom string when you play your ukulele.

In the C-major chord written out above you can see that there is only one fret to press down. This makes for many fingering alternatives. The easiest way to finger this C-chord is of course to use your index finger. But let us look at the next chord to play, G7, to see if there is another way to finger the C-chord. Here is the G7 chord:

G7: 04 23 12 21

The most common fingering for this chord is using the ring finger for the first string, the index finger for the second string and the middle finger for the third string. Try it out and see if it is this way you have played it.

A common chord progression is to move from C-major to G7. In order to make this chord change as smooth as possible I suggest that you use your ring finger to play the third fret on the first string in the C-major chord. When you move to G7 you simply slide your ring finger to the second fret and add the remaining two fingers and you have the G7 chord.

If you are going from G7 to C you only have to reverse the procedure.

Minimize finger movements

As an example of this principle we will use the chords A-minor and and F-major. Here you have these chords written out:

A-minor: 24 03 02 01

F-minor: 24 03 12 01

Suppose you have to move from Am to F. As you can see there is only one change to make between Am and F. The only thing to do is to put your index finger on the first fret on the second string and you will have the F chord. To make this chord change as smooth as possible you can keep your index finger as close as possible to this fret even when you play Am. This principle applies to other chord changes as well.

Keep fingers down on frets that are shared

In order to illustrate this principle we will use the chords F-major and G7. I have already showed the chords above so I just have to describe how to move your fingers. If you take a look at the two chords you will find that the first fret second string is shared by both chords. This fret is pressed down with your index finger.

As you move from F to G7 you only have to move your middle finger from fret two on the fourth string to fret two on the third string and press down fret two on string one with your ring finger and you are done!

Using the chords and principles we have already discussed you can practice the following sequence that is very common in many songs:

C Am F G7 C Am ...and so on.

How to practice

The best way to practice chord changes in a song is to take two consecutive chords and practice them by strumming once on every chord as you move between them. Slowly at first, making it possible to apply the principles we have discussed. In a short time you will find that you automatically will use the right fingerings, minimize finger movements and you will also find that your playing will be more effective and enjoyable!

News From The World Of Music Downloads

The music download business is fraught with difficulties. First there is the problem of cost. Debates have wrangled since the inception of music downloads as to what should be charged for music and the ease that people have been able to practice piracy because they thought that the music industry was greedy in what it was asking for its tracks.

Ninety people were caught by the British Phonographic industry last year acquiring music download tracks by piracy. Sixty of these people agreed out of court settlements that set them back about 2,500 pounds each - a costly business indeed.

Five people have been caught illegally sharing music downloads but refuse to accept they were wrong. Between them they managed to acquire 9,000 tunes and the industry intends to pursue them through the courts to recover their losses.

Illegal music downloads cost the British record industry 650 pounds million over the last two years so is it any wonder they are clamping down on piracy and their efforts must be working. That and the fact that music downloads are becoming cheaper due to popular demand. A 744% rise in the number of legal downloads was recorded in the last year.

However, get is sorted, download legally and you could be laughing. Scientists are working on a new micro switch that will allow mp3 players to hold millions of songs. The record amount of tunes held on one player currently belongs to Apple with their classic iPod holding 40,000 songs.

Whether your player holds 40,000 songs or millions, whatever you download, make sure it is legal. On top of that, check to see if you are covered with insurance. Insurance for downloaded music is not something many people consider but is an important factor when you think about how much the average music library would cost to replace.

Some insurance companies will cover the cost of the music in the event of a household flood, fire or theft. But a lot of them would make no recompense if the music was lost to a computer virus or hardware failure. Insurers are being urged to change their policies on the cover of music downloads as it is now the most popular way of buying and storing music and should be recognised as such. The insurers that do currently offer cover limit it to the device being in the home at the time or capping to a maximum payout of 2,000. pounds

The average downloaded music collection is worth an average 257 pounds at the moment so that insurance is more than adequate but what would happen in the loss of millions of songs? And would you be expected to prove that they were legally downloaded. They say yes - paper receipts would need to be seen otherwise the claim for lost music would be astronomical. Many music providers will email receipts that can be printed off in the event that they are needed or paper copies printed and kept each time one is received.

One good thing to see in the news of music downloads is the fact that The Beatles Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club is still the top selling song of all time - via all channels including the internet. This would suggest that either older people are becoming more internet savvy or the younger generation are developing a taste for real music.

Bob Marley Posters, Music, Art, Humanity And Soul

Its hard to believe that from such a tiny little island, could arise a giant amongst men. A man among men that could be such a force for good, and harmony, and peace. That from his humble beginnings such a giant would have an influence that would be felt on a global scale and stage. Bob Marley was that man. While I'm sure that was not his ambition as a child, he surely accepted it, as he would the waters that surrounded his home town of Kingston on the Caribbean island of Jamaica.

It suited him as naturally as the cool flowing rhythms of his music. And, it fit many of those who followed, and continue to do his work today. Bob Marleys three daughters Stephanie, Cedella, and Karen have all been a part of the musical legacy and business deals that sprang for the work of Marley. His six sons, Ziggy, Stephen, Julian, Damian, Ky-Mani, and Rohan have all followed along the musical path first trod down by Bob.

It's truly an inspired musical family of unequaled proportions, even to this day. Such an inspiring family, must surely suggest that music more than just runs through the family. It defines it, it inspires it, and it defies any logical explanation. It is more than just the music that runs through the family veins, it is the beliefs, the spirit, and enthusiasm that instills and influences every member of his family. It will be exciting to see what the follow generation of the Marley generation will bring to the world.

This diverse family of music, has simply extend their hold on the world of music. While Bob Marleys offspring's have taken their own individual music paths, they have simply extend what Bob began over twenty five years ago. While Bob Marley will always be remembered for Reggae, one would be remiss to to forget the influence he had on several genres of music, including pop, rhythm & blues, soul, and rock.

One has to wonder where such a powerful force for music, art, posters, clothing, belief, spirituality could have ascended from. Kingston Jamaica was not a gentile place in our not so distant past, and even closer still to the childhood of Bob Marley. Slavery was a big part of Jamaica's history, and influenced and molded the culture that would have give birth to a young Bob Marley. There's no denying it's influence on his music, and tone of his early years.

What's truly amazing about Bob Marley, is how his music was not entirely predicated on any one thing or feeling. While it does have it's dark and oppressive messages, it's also a music that is full of light and enlightenment. That is the dichotomy that is the music of Bob Marley, and in reality a perfect reflection of the world he lived in and the true humanity of the human soul.

The Pioneers of Rock in the 80's-Led Zepplin

This particular band was extremely successful throughout its career and it was around for quite a while to prove it. The band was active from the year of 1968 until 1980, when they broke up, though they did have occasional reunions later on. They are best recognized for their hard rock, but they also played heavy metal, folk rock and even blues rock.

Members of the band included Jimmy Page, John Bonham, Robert Plant and John Jones. Jimmy Page was the guitarist, John Bonham was on the drums, Robert Plant was the vocals, though he also played the harmonica, and John Jones was the base guitar as well as the keyboards.

In 1968, the first year that the band was together, they released their first album and went on tour in the United States. They were so well accepted in their first year that they completed a total of eight tours, four of which were in the United Kingdom and the other four were in the United States, and managed to put out a second album before the year was over.

Their third album was released in 1970 and by this time their playing had become so influential that it is believed they were the ones who brought in much of the music style played by other bands in the 1970s. Led Zeppelin was able to release a fourth album in 1971.

By this time, the reputation of the band their music took off between 1971 and 1975. During this four year period, their albums would sell like hotcakes and the band's career would be a major success. During the later '70s, the band would continue to tour and perform in front of large audiences, with the exception of the year of 1976 as Robert Plant had been involved in an accident that prevented him and the band from touring that year. Unfortunately, John Bonham died in the year of 1980.

After the funeral, the rest of the band decided that they would all go their separate ways instead of finding a new drummer.

While it may have been sad for many fans that the band broke up after Bonham's death, the surviving members continued to play some music and even came together a few times to perform. In the end, the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the United States in 1995 and they received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005. The following year, Led Zeppelin was inducted into the Music all of Fame in the United Kingdom.

In 2007, Led Zeppelin would reunite once again to perform in a concert in the U.K. that was meant to help raise money for scholarships for students planning to attend university. They were later offered money for doing a world tour, but they turned it down. Led Zeppelin was a huge hit in the '70s and the waves the band created are still being felt today.

Many young people who were not even born when the band was originally together are big fans of the group. Many young aspiring artists, as well as current artists admit to being greatly inspired and influenced by Led Zeppelin.

The Great Band Leader and Drummer Gene Krupa

Gene Krupa was born on January 15, 1909 in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up to become best known for swing and big band music. He spent much of his musical career as a band leader and favored the drums. His career, like that of many other well-known musicians before and after him, began early in his life.

Gene made some of his first recordings before he turned twenty when he was part of Eddie Condon's band. From there, his reputation and career grew. He continued to play with many other bands, created his own band, led trios and quartets and continued to play until he passed away in 1973.

The first band that Gene Krupa played with was the Thelma Terry band in 1927. The same year, he made some of his first recordings with Eddie Condon's band and then made more recordings in 1928 with Thelma Terry's band. In 1929, he joined the Red Nichols band and then became a part of Benny Goodman's band in 1934. It was in 1938 when he left the Benny Goodman band to create his own band.

Besides his music and his influence as a drummer, he can be credited with the invention of many of the modern pieces now included in a standard drum kit. It is believed that he invented the rim shot on the snare drum, the tom-toms that could be tuned, which was the first to record using a bass drum pedal. His method of drumming was published and used as a standard.

As far as his influence in the music scene is considered, he was the inspiration for Keith Moon, Peter Crisis and John Bonham among many other musicians who have said that Gene Krupa was their inspiration.

By the end of his career, Gene Krupa was the first drummer ever to be inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame, five years after his death in 1973.

He had a long musical career that had an incredible influence on many future musicians who are well-known today. His innovation in the instrument he played and the style he had, as well as the music he played, will continue to live on through many years. Even after his death, many enjoy his playing that was recorded before many were even born. New musicians today continue to be positively influenced by his playing and dream of only being half as good as a great artist like Gene Krupa.

He may have hit a few rough spots throughout his career, but these rough spots are dimmed by the talent he shared with the world. Even today he is considered to be one of the most influential drummers of the 1900s and his influence will most likely continue to affect many new musicians for generations to come. His innovation with the further development of the drum set may also influence new musicians in that no one has to play with what was used before. There is always room for improvement and always room for something new and useful.

The Process Of Recording - From A To Z

You may think that we are only going to be learning about recording instruments and vocals, with the results immediately going on to disc. Of course, it is a more complicated process than that. There is a lot of work done behind the scenes which goes into getting the finished product to sound exactly as desired. These steps are postproduction, mastering and engineering the recording.

After recording is complete, the next step is pre-mixing. In this process, the sounds of the instruments are normalized so that the recording engineer can determine the peaks and valleys of the various tracks. This process can be performed automatically using a normalizer (which does the work of averaging out the peaks for each instrument). If you want to customize your normalization, you can find formulas for working with the normalization tool you are using to build your own peaks and valleys.

During this part of the production process, there is the chance to enhance the sound of individual tracks. Extra sounds can be added at this stage, as can effects upon the tracks which have already been recorded. The engineer can add life to dampened studio recorded sound at this stage.

Next is the mixing stage. The engineer will at this point be looking at each instrument individually to optimize their sound. The first step here is to create envelopes for each sound - these are the peaks and valleys of each instruments sound. Effects will usually be added at this stage, as will compression if normalization of individual instruments is desired. The object here is to ensure that each part is even and sounds great on its own.

With this done, it is time for pre-mastering, which involves working with the arrangement of the recording as a whole. The equalization should be balanced out at this point. Not only the EQ, but volume control should be adjusted at this time.

Pre-mastering will include the use of industry standards for recordings along with engineer or producer's preferences for the recording. There is a lot of software in use in the recording industry which includes analytic functions for the comparison of high to low frequencies for the purpose of getting the optimal mix. Keep in mind this one principle when it comes to pre-mastering: you want to get the recording as a whole sounding as good as possible before mastering.

The last step is mastering. You will now take all of the songs slated for the CD and make sure that their volume is in balance with each other. Check all the levels of each track and compare them against each other - check both volume and equalization. It is a good idea to test out recordings on different CD players to this end. Unless you have a specific plan for the mastering involving unconventional volume levels for your tracks, your songs should be normalized at industry standard volume levels.

Now that you know a bit about the steps along the way from turning your recorded sounds into a finished CD, you will be better able to control the process as it goes along, meaning you will end up with a better sounding recording for your finished product.

Improve Your Songwriting with this Power Nouns Example

Power nouns are essential to create interesting names of persons, places and things in your lyrics. This songwriting secret is simple.

The more power nouns you can include the better. Use them to be specific in your songwriting. Here are two examples. Which of each pair is more interesting?

-The man walked down the road.
-Charlie walked down Heartbreak Ave.

-The girl twirled her hair and ate desert
-Bonnie twirled her golden hair and ate strawberry ice cream

Notice it is not just any old road but Heartbreak road. This gives the road a whole new dimension. In this case it does not give location information but a sense of the history of the road.

Just like strawberry ice cream is much more vivid and descriptive. Its creates a much clearer image in the mind.

Also notice I have included Charlie instead of the man and Bonnie instead of the girl. Very simple to do and it gives the characters in your song a human face the listener can imagine.

The lyrics with more detail, i.e. power nouns naming everything are more interesting to listeners. It is a fact.

It draws the listener into your story. It is like gossip. What good is it if you don't know who or what it is referring to.

It is the way people are hardwired. They may not know it but they need/love the juicy parts to a story. Providing the listener names plays on this need.

It makes your story much more real and believable to them. That's what you want. You want the listener drawn in by the story you are weaving.

The other thing this technique will do is make your songs stand out above all the other songwriters who don't use this technique.

It is that simple, most armature song writers don't do to well at including lots of interesting names. Now you have a leg up on them.

Be ruthless in your song, name everything. Pack it with names of everything you can think of. Basically if it's worth mentioning in your song, it's worth finding a way to name it.

You will sometimes catch yourself saying -oh it will not fit- or -people will understand- etc. That may be true, people may understand, but that is not the point.

Getting your listener hooked emotionally is how to write songs that will stand out.

Power nouns are your best friend, doing everything you can to get them into your songwriting game. Over doing it is possible; however you will be surprised at how many power nouns you can fit into your song.

You still need an interesting story and all the rest of proper songwriting technique.

Try this, use a person's name in the title of you next five songs. That means the name should likely also be in the hook line of your chorus.

Just that alone will make your songs more interesting. Again look at the great songs out there and see how many use names in the titles.

Using as many power nouns as possible is how to write songs that people will remember and that's good for you the songwriter.

Practice Playing the Drums Quietly

Drumming is a great art to master. Not only does it require a great deal of dexterity and coordination, but it also requires the drummer to really feel and get into the music that he is playing. The drum set is a great musical instrument that takes a lot of practice in order to become great at.

Sometimes, however, practicing may become a little bit of a problem if you do not have a music studio at your convenience. If you live in an apartment or close to neighbors, your practice sessions will make a great deal of noise and you may potentially become a nuisance and an annoyance to you neighbors and the people that you live with as well. In addition, you may have a busy schedule which only affords you to practice your drumming at night. Being noisy at night will upset the sleeping patterns of your neighbors and you may even be justly fined with a ticket from your local police department for disturbing the peace.

Do not fret too much. There are a couple of solutions that can afford you the ability to practice your drumming just about any time you want without disturbing anyone.

Drum Pad Silencers

Drum pad silencers are simple pads made out of a rubber-like material that you apply onto the top of your drums. These drum pad silencers absorb the sound that hitting the drums with your drumsticks make while at the same time still preserving a good amount of the same natural stick bounce and feel of your drum set. They even make these great silencer pads for the bass drum and cymbals.

Do not get me wrong, you will still create some noise while you are practicing with the drum pad silencers on. However, if you close your room door, your family will hardly hear a thing, and your neighbors will not hear a thing at all. So, with drum pad silencers, you can rock out on your drum set at any time of the day that you wish without disturbing the peace of anyone.

Rock Band

Have you heard of the video game Rock Band? Well, if you are a musician, than you should familiarize yourself with Rock Band. Granted, playing this video game is not really like playing in an actual rock band, the drum set in Rock Band comes pretty close to the real thing. The drum sequences in the video game are pretty awesome, and will test your drumming skills. These things are fairly quiet, but if you want it even quieter, they make drum pad silencers for the drum set made for Rock Band.

If you have got a set of headphones for your television and you have drum silencer pads, you are good to practice drumming with Rock Band almost at any time that you would like. It is a fun way to practice and test your coordination and dexterity.

So, these are just a couple of examples that should get you started with practicing your drumming quietly or as quietly as possible at the least. Rock on!

15 Questions and Answers to Test Your Song's Lyric Stabilty

Here are the questions to ask yourself to test the lyric stability of every song you write. First ask yourself what is the message you want to communicate with the listener emotionally.

Use this as a check list to understand where your song is stable and unstable and if it matches what you intend.

1. Is the tempo stable or unchanging?

2. Are there chords that feel unstable and leave you hanging?

3. Where are the minor, diminished or augmented chords?

4. Does the feel of those chords match the content of the lyric?

5. Do the lyrics feel happy or sad (stable vs unstable)?

6. Does the music feel happy or sad (stable vs unstable)?

7. Is the rhyme scheme perfect rhyme, imperfect rhyme or unrhymed?

8. Does the less perfect the rhyme make it feel more unstable?

9. Is the rhyme scheme the same within similar sections?

10.Is the rhyme scheme different between sections?

11. What beat do the lyrics come start in the bars of each section?

12. Is where the beats occur in the bars different in each section?

13. If the lyrics come in further away from the downbeats does it destabilize the song?

14 Are you using unstable music and stable lyrics and content?

15. Are you using unstable lyrics and content and stable music?

Ask yourself each of these questions and keep a list of your answers. All of these questions are designed to get at different issues in your song.

If you are tempted to say, this question does not matter because..., I encourage you to have a second look at the question and your answer.

How stable or unstable your song is, is up to you. The purpose of these questions is so you can take control of the stability of your song.

Mold it to impact you want the listener exactly how you want it to impact them and when you want it to impact them.

Each of these questions is an issue in itself which you can study. But for my point is help you to start to think about these things and realize there are various ways to manage how you write your song.

Also there are corresponding consequences to decisions you make.

There are no right and wrong answers to these. They only indicate how stable or unstable your song is. If the lyrics or music are unstable and the other is not, it will undermine the stability.

Sometimes it allows you to say one thing and mean something else.

The secret here is to use these questions and answers to shape your song so you intentionally create stable and unstable parts so the listeners experience what you want them to experience.
